Storms can affect any part of the planet at any time though usually tend to occur during specific seasons when conditions are ideal for the development of storms. In Australia, most storms across the eastern and northern Australia occur during the months from October through to the end of March. Severe thunderstorms can also occur any time during this period but favour conditions during the October through to December period. There is of course in some years a second minor peak of activity during February through to March.
In the southern states of Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and southern parts of Western Australia, storms are more likely during the winter months.
